Minutes of League meeting 03Feb15

Held at Ambleside Club.

Chairperson opened meeting.
Secretary read minutes from last meeting (3 November 2014).
Proposed by Tracey Jones. Seconded by Maggie Frost. Agreed.

There were no letters to be read. Reminder that letters must be received 14 days prior to the meeting so they can be published on the website.

Mixed Pairs

Chair Kay Ford confirmed that the mixed pairs competition is to be replayed on 28 May, venue to be confirmed. The reason for this is that despite reminders two male super league/County players were discovered to have played. These pairs will not be admitted into the competition for the replay.

Ann Fryer (Drifters) asked to address the meeting in person rather than by writing a letter; she wished to personally apologise as she was one of the ladies in question. She explained that her original partner pulled out and she got a new partner at the last minute whom she had never met before – she had absolutely no idea that he played super league. She realised now that she should have asked him, and was very apologetic to everyone that the competition has to be played again.

Wendy Brooks (Flying Pockets) said that the partner of one of her team said he thought he recognised one of the men but didn’t say anything on the night.

Kay commented that it is a learning experience for us all and we need to put it behind us and move on. Those replaying have handed in their names.

Sandra Matthews (Wanderers) raised an issue relevant to both the Mixed Pairs and the Mr & Mrs events. Male partners are invited to play in our league which is an amateur one. Their female partners should remind them to show some respect for those lady chalkers that are not so quick. Players must be patient as it is not always possible at these events to bring a more competent chalker with them. The only way to improve is by doing it. There were at least two ladies known to be upset by this at the mixed pairs event and we don’t want to see this happen again.

Forthcoming competitions

Secretary’s Cup is this Thursday, 5 February, at Windermere. Two teams have said they won’t be represented in the competition but have brought their raffle prizes tonight.

Names and fees were handed in for the Singles.
The cup will be held on 5 March at Southend Conservative Club. The draw will take place at 8pm prompt. Please tell your players to be there for 7.45pm so they are signed in and ready to play. Every player must be inside for the 8pm draw. There are 54 entrants for this cup so there is a lot to get through. The quarter final needs to be played by 10.30pm or the competition will run on to the following week

Kay said that we will be better organised so there isn’t a queue out the door for signing in. Hopefully each time we run one of these big events we get better at it and learn ways to improve them.

Names and fees were handed in for the Mr & Mrs. Teams were reminded that players who have played Super league or County level darts in the last 5 years are not eligible to enter. Don’t forget it’s your responsibility to check. The entry criteria is couples who are married or have lived together for at least a year. Couples playing in the Mr & Mrs cannot also play together in the Mixed Pairs; you can play together in one or the other but not both. This year there are 12 couples entered.

Xmas Draw – held 12Dec14

Kay thanked everyone for their attendance at the draw; it was a good fun night of prizes, bingo and music.

Vice-President Gill Cooper thanked Kay for all her hard work, as she did all the shopping and wrapping of the prizes and everything looked fantastic.

Treasurer Jane Schroder advised that the evening made a profit of £545.

Action for teams to take

This year’s presentation will be 10 July at Ambleside. Teams were asked to decide whether they want a disco or live music.

  • PLEASE ENTER “DISCO” OR “LIVE MUSIC” ON YOUR RESULTS CARD FOR 16/2.

Chris Stock (SCC) suggested Carmen, who does both disco and karaoke. Other suggestions for specific bands or DJs can also be written on your results card or given direct to Tricia.

The venue for the children’s Xmas party also needs to be decided. Rather than vote tonight, Tracey Golding (SCC) suggested that it should be taken back to teams as it only affects those that send children to the party. It was agreed this was a good idea.

  • PLEASE ENTER SCC, EAGLE or AMBLESIDE ON YOUR RESULTS CARD FOR 16/2

Chairperson’s AOB

It has been brought to Kay’s attention that teams are not always writing the full names of players on the board. In the constitution it states that the names should be written in full rather than just first names. The fours can be written with just first names but the league draw should be written with initial and surname.

Emma Hawkes (Drifters) asked if the mixed pairs is 301 or 501? There is always confusion over this. The correct format is 3 legs of 501, except the semis and final, which are played over 5 legs.

Wendy Brooks asked when do we go for the bull to start? All team cups are played in the same way as a league match, i.e. the away team throws first. Nearest the bull is only used for individual cups.

Both these items should be raised at the AGM if you want changes made. It would be helpful if teams make a note of anything you would like brought up at the AGM, and give this to Tricia or Kay so they can be discussed. The AGM is usually a very short meeting but perhaps we should spend a little time to clarify some things.

Sylvie Wildish (Eagle Club) asked the date of the AGM – it is 28 July.

Treasurer advised she had received £72 league fees.

Next meeting Tuesday 2 June 2015, 8pm at Ambleside

Requirements for June meeting:
1. All cups to be returned.
2. Presentation tickets and monies – we expect the price to remain £3 unless a more expensive group is hired, then they may go up to £4.
3. Nominations for committee.
4. £8 league fees (because no meetings in Mar, Apr, May)
These requirements are all listed on your sheet so please read it.

Thank you for coming out on a very cold night. Don’t forget Secretary’s Cup on Thursday.

Meeting closed 8.30pm.
