Minutes of League Meeting 7Oct14

Held at Ambleside Club.

Chairperson opened the meeting and took the opportunity to confirm that league meetings start at 8pm (not 7.30 as believed by some).

Secretary read minutes from last meeting (2 September 2014).
Proposed by Doreen Adams.  Seconded by Lynn Remmer. Agreed.

There were no letters to be read. Reminder that letters must be received 14 days prior to the meeting so they can be published on the website.

Venues

Jesters have had to move venues and are now playing at the Ambleside Club. As a result there are a couple of fixture changes to avoid a clash of venue with Wanderers:

  • 8 December: Wanderers now away to Windermere
  • 15 December: Wanderers now at home v Windermere
  • 5 January: Jesters now at home v WBL
  • 12 January: Jesters now away to WBL

All other fixtures remain unchanged.

Car parking at various venues was discussed, with Secretary Tricia Smith expressing how difficult it can sometimes be to find a parking space in the vicinity of the Ambleside Club. Parking at the Plough was also mentioned; Carol Burrell confirmed there is a small car park at the rear. Joanna Pires (LCC) said that they had played the Plough the previous evening and had not considered the parking to be a problem.

Ladies Pairs

Competition will be held at the Eagle Club on 16 October and there are 35 pairs entered. The draw will take place at 8pm sharp! Please bring along any supporters that you can to chalk and check.

Draws for team cups

Chairperson Kay Ford reminded everyone that the draw for all cup games should be made at 8pm with players available by 8.15pm.
In the event that the captain does not arrive by 8pm, a deputy must produce makeshift name cards in order for the draw to be done on time.

Christmas events

Names and monies for the children’s Xmas party were handed in; there are 51 children attending.

Xmas draw books were given out – 5 books per registered player. Any unsold tickets must be purchased by the player. DO NOT RETURN TICKETS UNSOLD.
Please ensure name and team is written clearly on each stub, and that all stubs are folded in 4 [half and half again – no origami thanks!].
Please encourage your players to sell as many as possible; Kay stressed that it is the only fundraising we do to help buy all the trophies. If you need additional tickets please see Secretary Tricia Smith; she will have them with her at the Pairs, Captains Cup, and next meeting. Please support the league by purchasing or selling as many Christmas Draw tickets as you can – thank you 🙂

It was agreed that Bingo would be an enjoyable form of entertainment at the draw.

Presentation night 2015

Due to the size limitations at the Ambleside Club, the committee has been investigating alternative venues, however all non-league venues were found to be very expensive and/or have restrictions on bringing our own food. Therefore Kay Ford suggested that each team vote on one of the following options:

  • Ambleside Club
  • Eagle Club
  • Southend Conservative Club

Please ask your team and then write their preferred venue on next week’s score card.

Chairperson’s AOB

Kay advised with great regret that our former Vice-President Kathy McKenna had sadly died. The funeral took place last month and was very well-attended.

Sylvia Wildish (Eagle Club) confirmed that Jean Hewitt was now feeling much better after a serious accident and is back playing darts.

Treasurer advised she had received £24 league fees.

Next meeting Tuesday 4 November 2014, 8pm at Ambleside

Requirements for November meeting:
1. Triples names + fees
2. Mixed pairs names + fees. Please remember no players who have played Super League or County level in the last 5 years; it is your responsibility to check!
3. Xmas draw monies + ticket stubs (stubs can be brought along on the draw night if you prefer)
4. Xmas draw £10 raffle prize with receipt attached or £10 cash.

Meeting closed 8.25pm.
