Minutes of League Meeting 5Feb14

Meeting held at Westcliff British Legion.

Chairperson opened meeting.
Secretary read minutes from last meeting (6 November 2013).
Proposed by Lynn Remmer.  Seconded by Wendy Brooks. Agreed.

There were no letters to be read. Reminder that letters must be received 14 days prior to the meeting so they can be published on the website.

Xmas events

Christmas Draw took place on 13 December. There was an issue with members of one team bringing their own drinks. This matter has been resolved. All teams are reminded that you must not take your own drinks into any of our venues. Such behaviour is unacceptable and brings the league into disrepute.

The children’s party had a lower attendance than previous years. Only 50 children attended, producing ticket revenue of £200. The total cost of the party was £289.70.

It cannot keep running at a loss, so either the party is scrapped or we increase the price to £5. It is unfair to those that don’t attend that the league subsidises it.

The venue has already been booked at Ambleside this year and we need to give as much notice as possible if cancelling. £5 is still a very good price for the food, entertainment and presents received.

Please go back to your team and ask them what they would like to do. Put the response on the card for your next league match.

Presentation night

Tickets must be paid for by Friday 11 July in order for seating to be sorted. The committee spend quite a while preparing the hall and arranging tables and chairs during the afternoon. That’s why we need to know numbers in advance. Committee members should not have to move seats around during the evening.

Tickets will still be available for purchase on the night, but you won’t be guaranteed a seat.

Team Cups

For team competitions where the semi and final are played on the same night: a player can play in the final as long as she arrives before the final draw, even if she didn’t play in the semi-final.

This has been discussed and voted on by the committee; the matter will be tabled at the AGM for full discussion so that the decision can be ratified or overturned.

Team cup results: Home teams please continue sending card to Trish, and also text the score to Jane e.g. 6-3 or 5-2 etc. This will enable her to update the website.

When playing a whole event in one night, is it viable to play 5 legs in semi-finals and finals? With 29 entries in the Triples it was thought that games would complete earlier than they did; it was a very late night.

This year 2 people turned up from a team (x2) and could not play. Should we let 2 people play?

Hazel Boxall said that in the past we have played 2 against 3. Not many people seemed to remember this. It is done on a team cup with a blind draw (e.g. Rose Stockwell Cup) when 2 can play against 3.

The Triples competition is what it says it is and should be played 3 against 3. Sandra Matthews commented that you can’t play Mr & Mrs without a Mr, you need what is says in the title. If one of your triple cannot attend, they can be replaced with someone else up to 24 hours before. The change must be phoned through to Tricia, giving her the replacement name.

Any proposed changes to cup formats or rules should be raised at the AGM.

Forthcoming competitions

Secretary’s Cup is tomorrow night at Windermere. Don’t forget each team must bring a raffle prize to the value of £3, else a cash alternative of £5 is required.

Names and fees were handed in for the Singles. 55 entries received.

Names and fees were handed in for the Mr & Mrs. 14 entries. Teams were reminded that players who have played Super league or County level darts in the last 5 years are not eligible to enter. Don’t forget it’s your responsibility to check.

League meetings

We are looking to possibly moving meetings to a different night. This evening SCC apologised and left the meeting due to playing in the Wednesday league. Sandra Matthews asked what happens if there is an important subject that needs to be voted on? They hadn’t nominated another team to vote for them or to collect any relevant information.

It was discussed that teams should send members that don’t play on a Wednesday or it could get to the stage that all teams could leave and only the committee is left sitting there halfway through.

Teresa Schwendener asked about the use of mobile phones during the meeting, including the top table. Phones should be off or on silent. The meeting generally does not take long.

Next meeting is scheduled for 2 April. It was asked whether it was necessary to hold it since there is nothing required for that meeting. It was decided that the April meeting is cancelled.

Chairperson’s AOB

Windermere pointed out that they had won their very first match this season and wanted to share their excitement with everyone. We were then informed that the losing team did have three walking wounded. 🙂

Treasurer advised she had received £72 league fees (December, January, February fees).

Next meeting Wednesday 4 June 2014, 8pm at WBL

Requirements for June meeting:
1. £10 raffle prize with receipt OR £10 cash alternative.
2. Money to purchase presentation night tickets at £3 per head.
3. £8 league fees (for March, April, May and June).

Meeting closed at 8.45pm.
