SDLADL League Meeting                                                                                              Wednesday 7 November 2012

The minutes of the last meeting (3 October) were read by Tricia Smith (Secretary).
Proposed by Maggie Frost, seconded by Wendy Brooks. Carried.

Correspondence

One letter received, from Southend Conservative Club captain Barbara Chittenden stating that as of 16 October Tracey Golding has replaced Karen Sheldon as vice-captain. Tracey to give her phone numbers to Kay after the meeting.

Ladies Pairs

The competition was played in one night on Thursday 18 October at the Eagle Club. Unfortunately people still arrived late, despite it being made clear at the last meeting that this is not acceptable. It was very difficult to do the draw for 40 pairs when people were booking in late. The next time we run a cup like this at a large venue we will have a sign-in sheet to try and make the process easier, so please make your players aware.

Some suggestions made for parking at the Eagle were to “dump” the car in the car park as you would soon be asked to move it if in the way. Another option is to park in the next street (Avon Way, off West Road) as there are parking places in front of the shops and you can then walk through the gate into the club’s car park.

The meeting agreed that it was a successful way of running the cup and a good night. Wendy Brooks commented that there was a better turn-out because players from the same team could all go along together.

Captains Cup

Was held on Thursday 1 November. A very nice evening at Pockets with thanks to Amber Glasby for the excellent food. Turn-out for this cup was a bit disappointing with only 7 captains out of 12 attending to play.

Vice-captains Cup

To be held on Thursday 6 December at Windermere, be there by 8pm. A £3 raffle prize per team is required and it would be nice to see a lot of support.

Christmas events

Santa has now been out and bought all the presents for the children’s party. 68 children are coming, which is well up on last year. The entertainment will be provided by “Marco Sparks”.

We are looking for league members to help with the party and also with the Christmas draw. Tracey Golding offered to help with the children’s party and Daphne Barnes offered to help with the Christmas draw; Maureen Ray has also volunteered.

Kay Ford asked if any teams need more Christmas draw tickets. Barbara Chittenden (SCC) said yes she had new players and will take 10 tickets.

The fish & chip shop originally to be used was found to be too expensive, so the shop in West Road will now be used. They require a week’s notice. All orders must be made with payment by the Vice-captains Cup or there will be no food.

£10 cash or £10 raffle prize has now been provided by each team. A reminder was given that a £3 raffle prize is also to be brought on the night by each team.

Don’t forget to send someone to pick up your prizes that night – or Tricia and Kay will be selling them on eBay ;-)
