SDLADL League Meeting                                                                                              Wednesday 6 February 2013

The minutes of the last meeting (7 November 2012) were read by Tricia Smith (Secretary).
Proposed by Doreen Adams, seconded by Maggie Frost. Carried.

Correspondence

Two letters received from Linda Remmer, captain of Castle Ladies.

1) First letter was about a super league player found to be playing in the Mixed Pairs. Lyn wanted to stress that she was unaware of Rule 12 and that if she had held a copy of the rules and constitution then she would never have allowed the player to play. Kay Ford (Chair) pointed out that the matter was dealt with on the night as discreetly as possible. The important thing is that every team should have a copy of the constitution and rules. Jane Schroder (Treasurer) advised that she had emailed a copy to Lyn Remmer and to Gladys Pope; Lyn did not receive this due to problems with her email. Lyn was handed a copy of the constitution at this meeting. Doreen Adams (WBL) took one as she hadn’t seen Gladys’s email. Mandy from Ambleside Ladies also took one. In her letter Lyn also suggested going back to the old fixture books with the rules contained within. This will be discussed at the AGM.

2) Lyn’s second letter concerned the late arrival to the venue of Jesters Ladies, who were the home team. They arrived late, did the draw late and the captain was found to be fairly rude during the evening on dealing with certain situations. Kay said that we don’t want this to turn into a big issue; we don’t have many teams so we don’t want any falling out! Hazel Boxall (captain of Jesters) has agreed to give an extra set of names to another team member, so that the draw can be done even if Hazel is late. We understand that there were no problems the following week at the return match and trust the matter is now resolved.

Children’s Christmas Party

Feedback was requested. Maureen Ray said that Sandra Matthews and Jane Schroder did a fantastic job with the presents. Thanks to everyone that helped with the event including Tracey Golding and Maureen herself. The committee also received a thank you card from SCC thanking them for their hard work.

Christmas Draw

Feedback was requested. General consensus was that it was an enjoyable evening. Wendy Brooks asked about there being no music; it was agreed to discuss this once we have booked the venue for next time and make a decision then. The event made £597 profit.

Cup Results

Mixed Pairs   Winners: Kirsty Stuart, D Duncan (Eagle Club); Runners-up: Wendy Sexton, L Goddard (Flying Pockets)

Singles Cup

The competition will played in one night on Thursday 7 March at Southend Conservative Club. 57 entries have been received so it will be a challenge to complete and we will probably have to use the boards downstairs as well as upstairs. Please remind your players that they must be on time! One minute late and they will not be entered! Signing in at the bigger cup venues seems to be working and makes it much easier to know who is actually there.

Presentation night

The presentation has now been booked and confirmation received; it will take place on Friday 12 July 2013 at the Ambleside Club. Could everyone go back to their teams and find out if they would prefer live music or a disco. Once decided, please enter “Disco” or “Live” in the Other Results box on your results card before you send it off.

Christmas events 2013

We have long worked on the general principle that both the Christmas draw and the children’s party should be held at the same venue, because the party doesn’t bring in much revenue for the hosting club whereas the draw night is more lucrative. It was agreed that the choices are either the Ambleside or the Eagle Club. The SCC was ruled out due to the stairs that separate the hall from the toilets, with the consequent risk of falls.

The Eagle Club was noted to be very welcoming and a great venue which would be even better if it was closer to town. Last year the children’s party had the highest turnout ever with 70 attendees and was held at the Eagle Club. Please write your venue choice on your results card before sending it off.

Chairperson’s AOB

Anyone looking for a new venue may wish to investigate Essex County Bowling Club in Imperial Avenue, Westcliff SS0 8NE, who would welcome any established or new darts teams.

Treasurer advised she had received £72 league fees.

Next meeting will be Wednesday 3 April 2013. Please bring:

·         2 lots of league fees
