SDLADL League Meeting                                                                                              Wednesday 3 April 2013

The minutes of the last meeting, held on 6 February 2013) were read by Tricia Smith (Secretary).
Proposed by Sue Davies, seconded by Teresa Schwendener. Carried.

Matters arising

Lynn Remmer (Castle Ladies) advised that she had spoken with the Essex Bowling Club and discovered that they were keen to create a darts team from within their membership. Jane Schroder noted that 2 teams could make that their venue, alternating home and away fixtures like WBL teams do.

Sly Wildish added that the Old Trout in London Road Southend (opposite Sainsburys) are willing to host a darts team.

Correspondence

Letter received from Jan Redburn, captain of Angels, following the severe weather on Monday 11 March. She raised 2 issues:

1) Jan requested clarification on when to postpone a game due to weather, stating that Lynn Remmer of Castle Ladies rang her in the late afternoon to see if the game was on. Jan had replied she was happy to go ahead – there was no snow in Benfleet, Rayleigh or Hockley at that time and she wasn’t aware of the conditions in Leigh, Chalkwell and central Southend. Lynn stated that she had rung twice and had also spoken to Kay Ford (Chair) for advice but Jan pointed out that at no time did Lynn say that they didn’t want to travel and play. Several Angels players live in Southend and all reached Hockley British Legion on time and without great difficulty. Lynn rang Jan again after 8pm to say that her team were abandoning their journeys.

Sylvia Wildish said that if it was that bad then players would refuse to go out. Kay agreed, saying that it remains the decision of the captains whether to travel or not, and if teams can’t agree on postponing then refer to the committee. It cannot be a committee decision at the outset, since weather conditions can vary so much in a small area.

Wendy Brooks asked if a date can be agreed for the postponed games. Kay advised that they are to be played on Monday 15 April so home teams please tell your venues. League matches must be completed before the President’s and Litho Cups can be played, so the President’s Cup will now be played on Monday 29 April. Jesters to take special note of this change as they are hosting; Maureen Ray will tell Hazel Boxall since she was not present.

2) Jan’s second point concerned the use of social media e.g. Facebook. Kay recalled the problems that were experienced with the old website’s message board and asked all teams to refrain from posting anything contentious or critical of other teams and players. It may be that we need to look at putting something in the Constitution to cover this.
